Kangaroo Island is home to some of the most breathtaking and tranquil environments in Australia. With postcard-worthy beaches, untouched bushland, mesmerising wildlife and so much more, this true island paradise is the perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway. Treat yourself to one of the best massages on Kangaroo Island then get out and explore our backyard. Wind your clock back to island time and experience the healing powers of nature with our local’s guide to the best spots to relax in nature on Kangaroo Island.
Vivonne Bay
There’s nothing like throwing down a towel on a sun-drenched beach for an all-natural serotonin boost. Vivonne Bay was once voted the best beach in Australia, and as you plunge into its crystal-clear water you’ll understand why. Walking barefoot along Vivonne’s 6km of pristine sand is a nature-made reflexology massage session while the sheltered, calm bay is perfect for swimming and well worth the cruisy 40-minute drive from the township of Kingscote. Pack your favourite book, a beach brolly and wholesome snacks and spend the day lazing on the beach set to a soundtrack of lapping waves. Come winter, a seaside stroll in the crisp ocean air is equally soothing for the soul.
Flinders Chase National Park
Flinders Chase National Park is a truly breathtaking corner of wild Australia home to unique Australian wildlife, beautiful native flora and spectacular coastal vistas. Bookending the northwest corner of Kangaroo Island about an hour’s drive from Kingscote, Flinders Chase is one of the best things to do on Kangaroo Island and is best known for its iconic natural wonders, Remarkable Rocks and Admiral’s Arch. It’s also an astounding example of nature’s regenerative powers. Flinders Chase was badly impacted during the 2019 bushfires but is blooming back into full life. It’s an idyllic place to meditate, reflect, walk and be immersed in your surroundings as you disconnect from the pressures of everyday life and reconnect to nature.
Stokes Bay
A day spent by the sea is the perfect natural tonic to recharge spiritually, emotionally and mentally so I had to put another of Kangaroo Island’s beautiful beaches on the list. One of the best places to relax in nature on our island paradise, this literal hidden gem is accessed through a little labyrinth of rock caves. A sheltered bay, large natural rockpool and snow-white sand will greet you as you emerge on the other side at Stokes Bay. This the secluded seaside sanctuary is one of the best beaches on Kangaroo Island and is the perfect spot to soak in the healing properties of the ocean, all without another soul in sight.
Seal Bay
Swap screen time for nature time at Seal Bay. Modern day life means we are always contactable, our phones and screens are a constant distraction and our attention is at the whim of our phone ringing or a notification ping. A visit to Seal Bay is the perfect incentive to leave your phone in your bag and focus on the moment. Here, you’ll meet the third-largest colony of endangered Australian Sea Lions in the world. Kick off your shoes and walk among the sea lions on the beach and marvel at them in their natural environment. Be present and soak it all in, mother nature really is incredible.
